Computer blue light glasses and Gunnar gaming glasses have several lens variants. We explain below the differences between them that result from the purpose of use or from the blue light protection factor (BLPF).

Gunnar Patented Lens (US Patented Lens # 9417460)

Amber lens:

It is the most well-known and best-selling Gunnar lens. It offers an optimal blue light protection factor (BLPF) of up to 65%. The amber (yellow) shade of the lens offers a very good contrast, but also a good visual performance. In addition to the blue light, the Amber lens also filters 100% UV rays.

This type of lens has a "focus power" of +0.2, which improves short-range vision. This dioptric power is not harmful to the eyes, this aspect being confirmed by many specialist doctors.

Natural Lens:

The Natural lens is the "twin sister" of the Ambra lens, I have the same color, but with a small difference: the Natural lens has no dioptric power, otherwise the protection against blue light remains the same, up to 65%, and against rays UV (100%).

This lens was launched with the range of kids computer glasses, but it is now also present in models for adults who want a solution for digital screens at a distance of more than 1m, such as the TV.

Clear lens

The Clear lens was created for people who work in true-color (graphics, design, etc.) and who need a balanced spectrum of colors. Therefore, the Clear lens is almost transparent, without any tint of color.

The protection offered by the Clear lens against blue light is 35%. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average Gunnar.

Lens Amber Max

The Amber Max lens is the one that offers the highest degree of protection against blue light, 98% BLPF. It is dedicated to people with acute eye sensitivity, but also to people who work mainly at night and want to maintain a natural rhythm of sleep by maintaining the normal level of melatonin secreted.

The lens shade is much more pronounced than the classic Amber lens.

Outdoor / Sun lens

Outdoor or Sun lenses are non-polarized and are intended for people who use digital screens in natural light, outdoors. The strong ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun (UVA and UVB) are filtered using this lens.

Diopter lenses

In Gunnar's portfolio there are glasses for computer with + diopters (readable, close) but also models of glasses with personalized diopters, made only to order, based on a medical prescription.

  • Computer glasses with diopters + can be found in diopter variants that start from +1.00, to +3.00, with variations of +0.25 between them.
  • Prescription RX Computer Glasses, will be made especially for you in the US, but we need a prescription from your ophthalmologist, which will show the diopters you need.

Gunnar lens structure

An important aspect that we find in all Gunnar lenses is given by their coating. There are two anti-glare layers, one on each side of the lens, which minimizes peripheral reflections and glare, thus improving visual clarity.

Moreover, the outer layer of the lenses is scratch-resistant, which offers a high durability of the glasses.
